As football enters silly season with the transfer window, it’s always nice to see a club put its fans first and foremost.
A football club is nothing without its fans and its support, that’s why we were warmed by Sporting Lisbon’s latest transfer dealing.
This week the Portuguese club officially signed promising footballer and lifelong Sporting fan Francisco – a five-year-old currently living with cancer.
Unveiled in an official club meeting on Monday by Sporting’s club president Bruno de Carvalho, young Franciso is already being hailed as one of the biggest signings of the summer.
“He is the big signing of the night. He is a big name who will show everyone what Sporting is all about,” said the club president.
“The club is 110 years old and it is with people like Francisco that we will easily last another 110.”
In a lovely gesture from the club, Franciso’s first matchday appearance for Sporting was to lead his team out for their pre-season friendly against Lyon this week.
The start of what will be a long and wonderful career for the young Sporting fan. Wonderful stuff.
