Spanish team becomes the first to name players from 11 different countries for La Liga game

Four continents represented too.

Tom Victor

Granada have broken new ground by becoming the first ever team in La Liga to name players from 11 different countries in their starting XI.

Four different confederations were represented in the matchday squad, which saw the strugglers move to within two points of safety with a 4-1 victory over Real Betis at  Los Cármenes.

One of the 11 players will be familiar to English audience – Andreas Pereira, on loan from Manchester United, who scored and was sent off.

Not only do the 11 players come from 11 different countries, but more than half of the starters were full internationals.

Oh, and one of the three substitutes to come off the bench, Panagiotis Kone, represents a 12th different country in Greece, while two more countries – Argentina and Portugal – were represented by unused subs.

The players, broken down by confederation, are as follows:

CAF: Uche Agbo (Nigeria), Mubarak Wakaso (Ghana), Mehdi Carcela-González (Morocco), Martin Hongla (Cameroon)

CONCACAF: Memo Ochoa (Mexico)

CONMEBOL: Gastón Silva (Uruguay), Adrián Ramos (Colombia), Andreas Pereira (Brazil)

UEFA: Sverrir Ingi Ingason (Iceland), Dimitri Foulqiuer (France), Litri (Spain)

We doubt there are too many clubs anywhere in the world who would be able to repeat the feat.
