Spanish press claim Real Madrid have given up on signing David de Gea

This would be an incredible boost for Manchester United.

But for an infamous administrative snafu, David de Gea would already be lining out for Los Blancos, but now the Spanish shot stopper’s long held ambition to join Real Madrid may not come to pass at all.

Madrid newspaper Marca has published quotes from a source on the board at Real which indicate that the impressive form shown by incumbent goalkeeper Keylor Navas has led the club to end their interest in De Gea.

“Keylor Navas is a fans’ favourite and his performances have been top-drawer. There is no need to search for another goalkeeper, and that includes De Gea,” the unnamed source said.

Navas will instead reportedly be handed a new contract at Real, which would leave United fans thanking their lucky stars that their best player over the past two seasons may not be departing the club after all.
