It can be sometimes confusing being a football supporter in England.
But, to be fair, a name like Rob Elliot is not so screamingly Irish as James McCarthy or Curtis Fleming, so we could sort of understand some fans ignorance during today’s early Premier League game as the Irishman pulled off save after save in Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth.
The netminder kept out everything that was thrown at him and looks to be in pole position to start for Ireland in next Friday’s Euro 2016 play-off clash with Bosnia.
Not that his three caps for Ireland prevented some fans calling for him to be included in the England squad after today’s game:

One good game for club and everyone expect Rob Elliot to be in the England squad! Same old story. Come on Bournemouth. #bbcfootball

Although at least some Irish fans were a bit more sensible:

#bbcfootball Rob Elliot plays for Ireland, so he's certainly not for England.
