So apparently Martin Skrtel has NOT signed a new contract for Liverpool

Confusion

SportsJOE

Will the real Martin Skrtel please stand up?

A bit of good news for Liverpool has been quickly quashed by the man in question. Unless this one is a fake, too.

The Reds’ stalwart Slovakian defender has come out and denied that he has signed a new contract at Anfield despite reports suggesting otherwise this week.

It was thought that Skrtel cleared up rumours of his unrest and even interest from other clubs when he took to Facebook – allegedly – to announce he had signed his future to Merseyside.

But that doesn’t seem to be the case. We think.

Quotes from the centre back and his agent in the Express have moved swiftly to claim all is not sorted.

Apparently, the Skrtel who looked to have agreed a new contract was the Skrtel from a fake account.

“I have my own profile on Facebook,” the player explained. “I use it for communication with my fans and I operate it through the agency Stars and Friends.

“I strongly disavow the profile on which the false information was published. I have not created the profile and I do not have a clue who the administrator is.”

At this stage, it is hard to know which Martin Skrtel this is; the real one, the fake one, or the one run by his management agency.

His agent has, at least, confirmed that they are talking to Liverpool. But they are not signing yet though.

“At the moment I can confirm that we are negotiating the matter with the club,” Karol Csonto said. “But we have not signed the contract yet. We will inform fans and media when it happens.”
