Ah, the old fall-on-your-arse trick.
A goalkeeper’s favourite. Even more effective for shots flirting with the crossbar.
Poor Simon Mignolet can’t catch a break. Either that or he doesn’t want one because the former Sunderland stopper tried his damned best to drop two points for Liverpool during their win at the Stadium of Light today. And his antics for Adam Johnson’s shot from outside the box made it incredible to think that he left his old stomping ground with a clean sheet.
The shot comes in, straight down the middle of the ‘keeper’s goals, and Mignolet just drops. He actually just drops as he opts to fall back, dive for cover and watch on in prayer hoping that it doesn’t go in.
Even Stevie Gerrard couldn’t believe that Simon got out alive.
Naturally, the good people of Twitter didn’t let the ‘Pool goalie away with it. I mean, why would they?
I know there was swerve on that, but I thought Mignolet would offer more resistance than a ‘Del Boy Falling Through The Bar’ move.

I'm still laughing at that Adam Johnson shot. Mignolet just chose to sit down instead of try and save it

Just put it on target ..mignolet can't do anything

Get the feeling Mignolet really doesn’t want to be a footballer anymore.

Mignolet got his angles spot on with that Johnson strike. Like a batsman knowing where his off stump is…..

Maybe Mignolet should jump not duck when a ball like Adam Johnson's is heading towards goal. #LFC

Clean sheet with Mignolet and Lovren on the pitch.
What a time to be alive.
