Shay Given concedes Premier League’s quickest ever hat-trick in Aston Villa horror show

Good grief

Stranded, helpless, buried. Not Shay’s finest three minute-spell.

Saido Mane has given Aston Villa relegation quivers all over again after recording the Premier League’s quickest ever hat-trick.

The Southampton forward put his side 3-0 ahead against a hapless Villa side at St Mary’s.

Mane swept in his first, tapped in another – following defence shenanigans – and had Shay Given flailing at fresh air for his third.

From 0-0 to 3-0, the hat-trick was recorded in 2 minutes and 40 seconds.

It beats Robbie Fowler’s 4 minute 33 second hat-trick for Liverpool, against Arsenal.

What did the man Jason McAteer calls ‘God’ make of it all?

On 26 minutes, Given made a save to stop Mane getting his fourth but Irish striker Shane Long lapped up the rebound.

Up in the stands, Dr Barry Gale was loving it:

Tim Sherwood, needless to say, was livid.
