Just the baddest man in Irish football.
Majestic man-mountain Shane Duffy can do it all. Having kept Ireland in the game with a succession of bone-jarring reducers and full-blooded blocks, inevitably it would be his phenomenal forehead that would rescue a point for Mick McCarthy and his improving Irish team.
This wasn’t a great Irish performance by any stretch, but Dion Fanning and Paddy McKenna discuss on The Football Spin how the team under Mick McCarthy is in better shape and is, in general, a happier place to be.
Shane Duffy has become a totemic figure for the Irish football team and after a questionable salmon comparison, Dion explains just how important his form is for the team:
“Shane Duffy is right now everything for Ireland. He is a phenomenon. For most of the game it was all down to him – his defence keeps us in the game and when Denmark score, who is it steps up?”
Ireland stay top of the group and prepare to lay waste to plucky Gibraltar who come to town on Monday night.
