It wasn’t the most entertaining game to watch, but the Republic of Ireland will definitely take that result.
While the Republic of Ireland’s performance against Denmark in the first leg of the 2018 World Cup playoff wasn’t the anything to write home about, 0-0 isn’t the worst result. It’s still very much all to play for in the Aviva on Tuesday.
Darren Randolph was the stand-out performer for the Boys In Green. The shot-stopper came to the rescue on several occasions to keep his clean sheet and Irish hopes of qualification intact.
Another positive was the lack of bookings, meaning no one will miss the return leg because of disciplinary reasons. David Meyler should slot into midfield as his suspension has ended.
Other than that, the most entertaining moment probably came before the match even kicked off. Shane Duffy getting a fright from the pre-match fireworks display gave us a giggle before we endured an incident-free goalless draw against a seeded team.
Duffy went on to put in another great shift at the back. He leads the charts in terms of headers won with 12 overall in the game. Maybe the pyrotechnics gave him the early scare he needed to calm the nerves.
Kept him on his toes.
