Mikey Drennan has not found the goals easy to come by in 2016, at least not for Shamrock Rovers.
The former Aston Villa trainee finished the 2015 season as the Hoops’ top scorer but has struggled to match that form thus far this campaign, which might explain why he has spent some time in his native Kilkenny getting his eye back in.
He managed that anyway, nailing 3-3 points for his club James Stephens in a Junior B play-off against rivals O’Loughlin Gaels. Seeing as the final score was 3-13 to 0-20, the importance of Drennan’s contribution is not hard to see.
Intercounty star and clubmate Eoin Larkin – recently returned from Syria to help the seniors beat the Rower-Inistioge in a league match – was certainly impressed.
thanks larks👍 good to be back playing and back playing with the best #imonthefrees

Drennan, who scored 12 goals for Rovers in his first season in the Airtricity League, is a former youth team-mate Jack Grealish at Villa, who sent him on loan at Carlisle and Portsmouth before he returned home.
Could a change of codes be on the cards? The Kilkenny forward line could use some fresh blood…
