This is getting very interesting
Eliana Guercio, the wife of Manchester United’s reserve goalkeeper Sergio Romero, has hit back at reports that the Argentina number one has been dropped from his country’s World Cup squad due to a knee injury.
It was reported on Tuesday that the 31-year-old would miss the World Cup after picking up an injury in training which would require surgery, but his wife has insisted that he has suffered no breaks and simply requires the removal of loose cartilage, disputing the Argentinian FA’s assertion that his injury was serious.
In a tweet sent this week, Guercio said:
“The injury occurred in the game against Spain. Sergio will have a clean where they remove a loose small part, and with a knee that has nothing broken the recovery takes two weeks to be fit. But private interests are worth more than national team for some.”
La lesión se produjo en el partido contra España. Sergio se hará una limpieza del pequeño cuerpo suelto y con una rodilla que no tiene nada roto la recuperación tarda dos semanas para estar apto. Pero los intereses particulares valen más que la selección para algunos.

There is yet to be any response from the Argentina FA or manager Jorge Sampaoli.
Romero has spent his time at Old Trafford as a reserve behind number one David de Gea, making just 38 appearances in three years.
Despite his lack of domestic playing time, he has remained the first choice goalkeeper for his country and even featured in the World Cup final in 2014, where Germany defeated Argentina to win the competition.
