The Real Madrid captain hit back after criticism from Jurgen Klopp

Real Madrid will face their local rivals Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup tomorrow night in Tallinn, Estonia. Madrid qualified for the fixture through winning the Champions League, while Atlético were crowned Europa League champions after beating Marseille in Lyon.

Madrid’s Champions League final win against Liverpool was not without its controversy, as Mohamed Salah went off injured in the first half after injuring his shoulder during a tussle with Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp was openly critical of Ramos’ actions during the game, labelling him a “wrestler”, and Ramos has hit back.

During a pre-match press conference this afternoon, the Madrid captain was asked about Klopp’s comments.

“It’s not the first final Klopp has lost,” Ramos said. “He should worry about his own problems,” he added.

“I have voted for Klopp as one of the best coaches in the world so he stays a little more calm.”

Ramos was also asked about Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus, to which he responded:

“The key to success here is that we have always been a family and we have been a part of it.”

“Madrid will always continue to win despite the departure of Cristiano and Zidane. Real Madrid will not stop winning. He has decided to change stage and I hope that everything goes well,” he said.

The Super Cup might be a one-off match, and might not be considered a proper trophy, but you can be sure to expect a fiery atmosphere after Thibaut Courtois joined Madrid this summer.

The Belgian goalkeeper previously played for Atlético while on loan from Chelsea and sang a derogatory song about Real Madrid fans during the celebrations after Atlético’s 2013 Copa del Rey win.

His move has angered Atlético fans, who will make sure to let him know during the game, assuming he starts in goal ahead of Keylor Navas.
