Seamus Coleman confronts Marcus Rojo after reckless two-footed lunge

How did he get away with this?

God love those Argentinians. They really, really want a winter break this year, don’t they?

Yesterday it was Sergio Aguero, sent off for his lunge at David Luiz. Today, it’s Marcos Rojo, who did his best to get a sending off in the early stages of Manchester United’s visit to Everton.

Although he hasn’t exactly convinced anyone that he’s actually a defender during his time at the club, Rojo had done pretty well since stepping in to deputise for injuries in the United backline.

That said, there’s always a sense with United’s supporters that the Argentina international has a mistake in him, and his attempts to ‘tackle’ Idrissa Gueye nearly saw him walking off for an early bath at Goodison Park.

We can’t show you the video, but you get the gist of things from these images.

Here he is, taking flight. Two feet are already off the ground.

He might have got the ball, but studs were undoubtedly showing.

Surely he wouldn’t escape punishment?

And from another angle.

Somehow, the referee Michael Oliver decided that the card was only worthy of a yellow, much to the amazement of those watching the match.

Everton full-back and Republic of Ireland captain rightly confronted Rojo over his reckless challenge.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic later took advantage of some highly questionable goalkeeping from Everton’s Maarten Stekelenburg to put United 1-0 up at half time.
