Scott Brown gets completely carried away with Brendan Rodgers suggestion

We've all spoken before thinking before

Zinedine Zidane best watch his back.

If the pressure suddenly starts mounting a few months after Real Madrid’s 59-year wait for a La Liga/European Cup double came to an end, the Frenchman might be ousted by the logical next step in the managerial pecking order, Brendan Rodgers.

It’s been less than two years since Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool after falling foul of the Reds board.

Now, credit to the 44-year-old, he’s done incredible stuff since he moved to Scotland to take charge of Celtic but it should also be pointed out that Ronny Deila delivered a pair of league titles to the Hoops in what is essentially a monopoly nowadays.

Rodgers is a fantastic manager, nobody’s denying that.

But we reckon his captain, Scott Brown, got a touch carried away when he was praising the ability of Rodgers this week.

Brown has suggested that Rodgers is so in-demand that he wouldn’t be surprised to see the reigning European champions come calling for the Northern Irishman in a matter of months.

“You never know as a player or a manager what is going to happen down the line,” Brown told Herald Scotland.

“Real Madrid could come in for the gaffer over the next six months, you never know.

“You could probably understand teams would want him, the way we’ve been playing. Especially with what we did last year in winning the treble. You’d expect that, but for now he is signed up, and lucky enough for us we’re going to get four more years with him, hopefully.”

Now we don’t often make predictions but we’d be quite confident in saying that Rodgers will not quite be ready for the biggest job in football by next January.

And that seems to be the popular opinion too.
