Seamus Coleman’s recovery from horror injury has really impressed Sam Allardyce

"I don’t go this far normally"

Seamus Coleman is back!

Republic of Ireland captain Seamus Coleman played a full 94 minutes in his competitive return for the Everton senior team on Wednesday evening.

Just 313 days after suffering a horror double leg break, Coleman was back on the pitch in a Premier League game.

There was no secret to how he managed to complete this feat either. He put in the work – he spent all those hours in rehabilitation, fought through the pain, kept his head up and persevered. It was far from easy, but Coleman is no ordinary man. With a mindset like his, a return was inevitable.

How Coleman managed to come back so soon caught Sam Allardyce’s attention. At an Everton press conference this week, Big Sam admitted that he had never seen anything like Coleman’s commitment to bouncing back before.

“I don’t go this far normally, it was almost superhuman. I’ve never seen somebody come back from 10 months out and perform for 90 minutes. The character of the man is a great example for younger players.”

“When you sprint 80 yards in the 92nd minute and the opposition players, who have been playing every week can’t catch you up, shows you the tremendous capacity for the game that he has. Mentally he’s very strong.”

Mentally, he’s a fortress. An injury that severe can ruin anyone. Not Coleman though.

That was never going to stop him.
