If only he was called Sam van Allardyce
If Manchester United fans thought things were grim under David Moyes last season, then perhaps today they have just had a vision of how things possibly could have gone even worse.
Moyes was the so called ‘Chosen One’ by Alex Ferguson to take up the reigns at Old Trafford following his retirement, but no-one could have predicted he would be sacked before he even had a full season under his belt.
However if things had happened differently another Premier League boss would have fancied his chances at talking over at the club.
Sam Allardyce has announced that he only had two dream jobs in football – sorry West Ham fans – and that one of them is the Old Trafford gig.
The former Limerick FC player-manager tells Clare Balding on BT Sport on a show broadcast on Thursday night that he would love to have taken over the 20-time Premier League champions, while he also discusses his disappointment at missing out on the England job to Steve McClaren.
Seems poor Sam just can’t catch a break. Maybe if things go badly for Roy Hodgson or Louis van Gaal then they might keep the West Ham boss in mind as a possible replacement.
Or maybe not if he gets sacked by the Hammers, as is rumoured this summer.
The full interview goes out on on The Clare Balding Show on BT Sport 1 at 10.15pm.
