Saints legend Matt Le Tissier drives 11-year-old to school prom to help beat bullies

What a cracking fella

Rob Burnett

We live in a scary, often depressing world, filled with terrorist attacks, tooth decay, and Donald Trump bidding for the White House.

But every so often a story comes along that reminds you not everything is awful.

Our story begins with 11-year-old Ben Shaw from Southampton.

Ben has been learning football at the Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching Academy since 2012.

And for a young Saints fan, who better to be coached by than the club’s most iconic player? Only problem: some of the kids at Ben’s school thought he was having them on when he said Le Tiss was one of his coaches.

“Ben has had a hard time at school, they were taking the mick out of him saying he doesn’t go to the MLT academy,” mum Claire told the Southern Daily Echo.

So to shut up the naysayers, Claire asked if Matt himself would drive Ben to his year six leavers prom at the Oakwood Primary School. And Matt only said yes.

“We wanted to do something special for his prom and Ben was completely shocked, it was lovely,” Claire added.

Ben said: “I was really excited and surprised, it was really good and all my friends were really impressed.

“They wanted to know how I did it.”

Take that, bullies.
