Sadio Mane’s ankle contorts in awful direction and Liverpool fans panic

Doesn't look good

Liverpool picked up three points against their Merseyside rivals on Saturday but at what cost?

The Reds top scorer, Sadio Mane, looked in considerable discomfort as his afternoon was cut short shortly after half-time in their 3-1 victory over Everton.

Mane had opened the scoring early on in a feisty derby at Anfield, and proved just why the club’s supporters consider him one of the most important members of Jurgen Klopp’s team.

But there were plenty of concerned glances in Mane’s direction when he roared in agony during a seemingly innocuous challenge with Leighton Baines.

However, on second viewing, we discovered that Mane’s left foot became trapped in the turf while Baines’ momentum unintentionally contorted the ankle of the Senegal international into a sickening position.

He appeared to be in significant pain as he struggled to make his way off the pitch but was eventually replaced by Divock Origi.

And while, at the time of writing it’s too early to know how long the injury will rule Mane out for, supporters went into full-on panic mode at the prospect of their biggest goal threat being out for an extended period of time as the season reaches its business end.
