WATCH: Ryan Giggs shows he’s still got it with impressive skill in futsal league

Rolling back the years

Tom Victor

Ryan Giggs might have retired from professional football two years ago, but his skills have not deserted him.

The former Manchester United winger has turned his attention to futsal after leaving his coaching role with the club, joining the Premier Futsal league in India alongside the likes of Ronaldinho and Paul Scholes.

Giggs, now 42 years of age, made his debut for the Mumbai 5s team against Chennai, but it was during the match against a Kochi team boasting former Real Madrid man Michel Salgado as their marquee player that he really shone.

And the Welshman rolled back the years with some sublime skills in the small-sided match.

Mumbai may have lost the game, but they remain in contention for a place in the semi-finals of the inaugural Premier Futsal tournament. The final is scheduled for July 24 in Goa.

Giggs had been associated with Manchester United for almost three decades before parting ways with the club this summer.

United’s new manager Jose Mourinho denied being responsible for the club legend’s exit, suggesting Giggs had left to pursue dreams of management.

Those dreams seem to be on hold for the time being, though. In addition to his futsal stint, Giggs has been getting into punditry, joining the ITV team during Euro 2016.
