Ryan Giggs selects rivals’ star man as player Manchester United need to sign

Surely not

You don’t often see players move between Arsenal and Manchester United.

A fiercer Premier League rivalry simply doesn’t exist, which is what made the transfer of Robin van Persie from the Emirates to Old Trafford and Danny Welbeck’s reverse switch so surprising.

Only eight players in the last 63 years have swapped allegiances from the Gunners to the Red Devils but, if Ryan Giggs gets his wish, that total will become nine as early as this summer.

Giggs has named the man he feels current United boss Jose Mourinho should make his top target once the transfer window opens and while he would undoubtedly be welcomed with open arms by United supporters, we somehow don’t see it happening.

The Welshman has urged Mourinho to splash out on Arsenal’s top scorer this season, Alexis Sanchez, who has just a year remaining on his current deal with the North London outfit but seems to be stalling on an extension after reportedly becoming disillusioned by the ambitions of manager Arsene Wenger.

“[He’s] a brilliant player. His work rate, the effect he has on his team-mates, a winner,” Giggs said of the Chile international, with quotes appearing in Manchester Evening News.

“He just looks how South Americans are, tough aren’t they.

“Yeah. Jose Mourinho bought [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic because he is a winner. He’d won everywhere he’d gone. Not only the effect on the pitch but off the pitch as well.

“You can just feel that Sanchez would give his team-mates a lift.”

Sanchez moved to the Premier League from Barcelona for £31.7m in 2014, and has scored 68 goals in all competitions since.
