Russell Crowe doesn’t rule out bid to buy Leeds in this BBC 5 Live interview

The actor says he's "getting a little impatient" with the current owners

Those Russell Crowe – Leeds United rumours just won’t go away.

And why would they, when the man at the centre of them drops hints like these?

The actor has been touted as a potential buyer of the fallen giants, after this tweet back in February. Crowe has often spoken about his love of Leeds, who he’s been following since the 1970s.

Crowe was speaking to BBC’s 5 Live recently, and in a teaser for the full interview which will be played tomorrow, he was asked about the rumours, and gave quite the passionate response, going into great detail about his love for Leeds, and how he has turned around the fortunes of his boyhood rugby league team, the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

While Crowe never openly stated whether he would or would not buy the club, he certainly put forward an impassioned sales pitch, saying: “Like many other Leeds fans – and probably in fact 99.9% – I’m getting a little impatient, you know?

“Some of your listeners may not know that I own a rugby league team in Australia which, again, is my childhood team and they were a champion team when I was younger. Then they’d fallen in to a state of disarray and they were perennial losers. So, nine years ago, I put my cheque book where my mouth is and bought the club,” he added.

Crowe later tweeted that he had been given some Yorkshire Tea while on another BBC Radio show – a clear sign that he’s about to buy Leeds.

Actually, we may be reading a bit too much into that part…
