This is where the final preparations for Ireland’s Euro 2016 voyage will take place.
Picture via FotaIsland.ieAfter taking all of their options into consideration, Martin O’Neill has settled on Cork’s Fota Island Resort as the location for his side’s training camp before they travel to France.
The players will stay in Fota for the five-day camp which will run from Monday, May 30 through to Friday, June 3.
“I’ve been to a number of potential sites in Ireland and overseas, and we’ve decided on Fota Island because it offers everything we need right here on our doorstep,” said O’Neill.
“I visited Fota Island Resort recently, with Roy Keane, and I know that it has a good pedigree as a base for sporting teams and, in particular, football squads.
“The players will be in France for what will be a long enough period, so it’s good to keep them closer to home for the build-up to such a huge competition, and in a familiar environment.”
Fota Island Resort, which is most famous for hosting the Irish Open in 2001, 2002 and 2014, has been used by many teams for training camps with the likes of Munster, Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United’s reserves all having set up shop on the Co. Cork grounds.
