Back at the punditry and back at dishing out some home truths
While PSG’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea wasn’t exactly the blockbuster return the Champions League may have wanted, at least it heralded the reintroduction of Roy Keane to the world of punditry.
Perhaps because of the temperature of the game, Keane did not have too many chances to shine but one comment by Jose Mourinho brought a trademark line of honesty from the Corkman.
ITV played a short interview with the Chelsea boss where he said: ‘The hard work is to build a great team and we are a great team. We did the hard work, which is to build a great team, now is the unpredictability of football.’
Keane saw things a bit differently. ‘I think they have the potential to be a great team. He’s clearly a great manager but they’ve got to back it up with some trophies. To say they’re a great team at the moment is nonsense.’
His punditry colleague for the night, Paul Scholes, was in agreement, saying: ‘Over four or five years you have to win trophies every year. It’s a bit early to say they’re a great team.’
There wasn’t much else for Keane or Scholes to get riled up about and when the highlights package showed Diego Costa pulling David Luiz’ hair, Keane only deemed it ‘silly’.
