He stopped short of saying Bale should be ‘lynched’ like Carvajal, but Roy Keane was not impressed.
The Manchester United legend called out the world’s most expensive footballer for giving Real Madrid ‘absolutely nothing’ in their Champions League semi final.
The holders lost in Italy 2-1 to Juventus in the first leg and, whilst Keane reckons full back Dani Carvajal made an unforgivable decision to bring Tevez down for the winning penalty, he panned Gareth Bale for his non-involvement.
Analysing the game on ITV, the Republic of Ireland assistant manager didn’t hold back with his views on the Welsh man.
“It’s very difficult for Real Madrid to win a big game like this when you are playing with 10 men,” he said.
“Gareth Bale gave them absolutely nothing tonight.
“You say a lack of confidence from Bale but he kept making the easy decision.
“The reason he’s at Real Madrid is to be brave and get at people. Every time he got at people, even on one v ones, he turned back.
“His team-mates can’t be happy with him because he took the easy option every time.”
And, if that wasn’t enough, there was also an opening for Keano’s central midfield ally, Paul Scholes, to join in on the Bale bashing and, naturally, the English man was on the same wavelength as his former skipper.
“Bale never once got the ball down and tried to take his man on,” he said. “It was just a step to the side and whip it in, but Juventus headed everything away – it was easy for them.”
