Roy Keane might have the Hull City job in the bag if he wants it, according to reports.
The Tigers are in desperate need of a replacement for Steve Bruce, who quit the club yesterday after growing frustrated with the side’s lack of activity in the transfer market. Bruce had been with the club for four years, during which he guided them to two promotions and one FA Cup final.
Three weeks out from the start of the new season, the newly-promoted side are in desperate need of a new manager it is being reported by the Irish Daily Mail that should Keane apply for the job, he would be one of the front-runners to land it.
Keane has verbally agreed to continue as Martin O’Neill’s second in command at the Republic of Ireland for the World Cup qualifiers, but nothing has been signed yet. The former Ireland and Manchester United captain is out of contract and free to secure another role without paying compensation to the FAI, despite having “shaken hands” on a reported two-year deal.
The Cork native has been out of management since being sacked by Ipswich in 2011 and while he had some promising moments at the helm of Sunderland in his first managerial gig, that also ended in his sacking. The Black Cats were languishing in 18th place in the Premier League when Keane got the boot in 2008.
