“One word can light up the studio – there is no one better than that.”

Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher picked their top three football pundits on Monday Night Football.

The pair are two of the most high-profile pundits covering the Premier League and were tasked with selecting their favourite football pundits.

Carragher opted for Keane, Gary Neville and Micah Richards. While Keane chose Carragher, Neville and Graeme Souness. He joked that there was ‘no chance’ of him selecting Richards.

Carragher started his selection with Keane, saying the Irishman is ‘the master of cutting through nonsense.’

The former Liverpool defender also opted for Neville due to the detail the Sky Sports pundit goes into during his analysis.

Finally, Carragher selected Richards, his Sky Sports and CBS colleague for his light-hearted approach to punditry.

“I’ll go with Roy,” Carragher said on Monday Night Football, following the 1-1 draw between Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa.

“He is the master of cutting through the nonsense me and Neville come out with. One word can light up the studio – there is no one better than that.

“I would have to say my companion Gary, the detail he goes into, and big Micah Richards.

“He brings that light-heartedness. They’re the three I like working with best.”

Keane, meanwhile, opted for Carragher, Neville and Souness, before joking that there was ‘no chance’ that he would select his Sky Sports colleague Micah Richards.

“I have to go with Jamie, we have done a deal. What does help is listening to people like Jamie who are very passionate,” Keane said.

“I think Neville is really good. I’ll have to go with Nev because as I always say, I want tickets for the Salford games.

“I like Graeme Souness,” Keane continued.

“Growing up I watched him as a player, I thought he was a brilliant player so he always had that influence on me in the way he played.

“What he won. I have done some work with him and he thinks along the same lines as me.”

Presenter Dave Jones then joked about Keane not picking Richards, saying ‘spare a thought for poor Micah Richards.’

Keane responded by saying: “I’m not picking him, no chance, Jesus!”
