Roy Keane gave a typical Keano response when asked what he thinks about Manchester United fans who blame the midfielder for the high-profile row with Alex Ferguson.
“If United fans say I had a decent career, then brilliant. If they want to say, ‘What’s gone on with the Ferguson stuff?’ then f*** them.”
The former United and Ireland captain revealed his nonplussed attitude in an interview in the upcoming edition of FourFourTwo.
And Keane, who last week left his post as assistant manager at Aston Villa, claimed that he would be willing to accept an apology from his former manager over a cuppa, rather than a pint.
“Well, it would be a cup of tea. If Sir Alex apologises, then yes, I would. If Ferguson apologises, I would be happy to move on.
“For Ferguson to bad-mouth me after I left, I think he does owe me an apology.”
Keane conceded that the similarities between himself and the Scotsman were always going to ensure a tumultuous end to the Corkman’s time at Old Trafford.
“Yes. It was never going to end as a pal’s act,” Keane said. “I was never going to leave with champagne and flowers.”
The interview with Keane was teased by the piece’s author Sam Pilger who tweeted some of Keano’s quotes last night.
Keane: “I saw how Bryan Robson and Steve Bruce left the club, both decent United captains, and I didn’t like the way they left.”
