“No, I’m not offering someone out, I’m 53 years of age with five kids and two grandkids.”
Roy Keane has given his side of the story, following his pitch-side argument with an Ipswich Town fan after Manchester United’s 1-1 draw at Portman Road last month.
The former Ipswich boss told the supporter to “meet me in the car park” after they were seen arguing while Keane was on punditry duty for Sky Sports.
One of the fans (in the woolly hat), Neil Finbow, revealed that they had reminded Keane about his disappointing tenure as boss of the club.
He also brought up his infamous tackle on Alf-Inge Haaland and the Ireland World Cup squad walk-out in Saipan in 2002.

However, on a recent live show of The Overlap – with Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville, Ian Wright, and Jill Scott – Keane was adamant that he was not too angry during the incident and that he was not inviting the fan for a car park scrap.
He said: “I wasn’t angry at the Ipswich Town game.
“What happens when we’re doing matches and the analysis is happening at the end of the match when fans can be up or down, whatever emotions they are feeling – and people think they can abuse you, and it seems to be a, ‘We’re supposed to accept that’.
“I went over to him twice – I said, ‘No problem, if you want to abuse me or if you want a discussion with me, well I’m working’.
“I went over to him twice at different stages and he was swearing in front of kids.
“I said, ‘If you want to see me afterwards’ – and people thought I was asking him for a [fight] – I said, ‘I’ll see you in the car park’.
“Where else was I going to see him? He wasn’t there! I couldn’t say see you in the lounge. They were obviously asked to leave the ground.
“No, I’m not offering someone out, I’m 53 years of age with five kids and two grandkids.”
Keane then went on to say that the fan “wasn’t there” in the car park, which garnered a big laugh from Carragher.
The former Man United star added: “I was calm. That’s not me getting angry. Did I wait in the car park? There were other idiots in the car park, and other people hanging around.
“But I don’t get it and obviously the anger people have is that I’m asking someone out for a fight.”
