No regrets from Roy
This day next week we’ll be just 24 hours from getting ready to face Poland in a vital European qualaifer and that means more chance to get some prime time with Roy Keane.
The Ireland assistant will be helping Martin O’Neill get his side ready for next Sunday’s game at the Aviva and the Corkman is now free to focus fully on his Ireland duties after walking away from his role as No 2 at Aston Villa earlier in the season.
But speaking to the Examiner, Keane admits he has no regrets about the decision to walk away.
“There was a little bit of frustration, having been a manager before, going in as a No.2 at club level. It was small bit frustrating.
“I have no regrets. You have to try something but the two jobs were too much. I had the commitment to Martin and the FAI, so I felt it was holding me back.”
And as for Villa’s prospects of staying up, Keane has no fears.
“But I enjoyed working with Paul Lambert at Villa. I spoke to him last week for a chat. He’s not daft; when you lose games you are under pressure.
“Villa is a brilliant club and they’ll stay up this year. They definitely will, no problem there.”
