Roy Keane identifies new players for Manchester United and takes a cheeky dig at Steven Gerrard

Keane has said worse about others, much worse

As far as Roy Keane verbal character assassinations go, this is pretty tame.

The Republic of Ireland assistant manager was speaking at a fundraiser for Waterford United last night, covering a range of topics from his old club, Seamus Coleman and even Steven Gerrard.

When asked if the United missed a trick by not signing the departing Liverpool captain, Keane said: ‘No, we want to try win something’.

Firstly, who in their right mind thought Gerrard would leave Liverpool for their fiercest rivals? And, secondly, it’s strange to see Keane refer to his former club as ‘we’, considering his acrimonious departure and continued fued with Alex Ferguson.

Keane identified two players United should make a move for this summer, former Red Devils midfielder and an Irish defender.

‘I think United need a centre half and midfielder and Seamus Coleman for right back,’ Keane said.

‘I think that United should sign Paul Pogba for they need a presence and physical player in midfield. Pogba knows the league, is big and strong and is playing brilliantly for Juventus’.

‘People say United can’t get Pogba but they should try’.

Keane also couldn’t resist another cheeky dig at his former boss, and now mortal enemy, Ferguson. The former United captain said the departure of David Gill in 2013, the former chief executive, has been as damaging to the club as Ferguson’s departure.

Hat-tip Irish Independent.
