Keane couldn’t believe what he heard
Roy Keane could barely hide his laughter as Graeme Souness gave his bold prediction ahead of Liverpool’s game against Manchester United.
The two long-standing rivals meet at Anfield on Sunday as United look to move back into second place and try to close the gap to league leaders Arsenal.
Erik ten Hag’s impact at Old Trafford has meant that the Red Devils go into the game as the favourite for the first time in a while as Liverpool do everything they can to try and finish inside the top four.
But despite going in as the underdogs, Souness still thinks that Liverpool will win the hotly contested fixture.
“I think where Liverpool are right now, this game comes at the perfect time,” he explained. “What an opportunity to put a marker down, to shut all the doubting Thomases up, and damage United.
“I fully expect them to turn up today. And it’s a long time, Kelly [Cates, Sky Sports presenter] , since I’ve been as confident about a Liverpool win against United as I am today. I just feel they’re going to turn up today. I think they’ll be bang up for it today. This is a difficult place for United to come.”
Everybody else seemed to take his comments as tongue-in-cheek as Keane began to smirk while even former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher found it amusing.
Those on social media also spotted Keane laughing at Souness’ claims. One user wrote: “Souness has Keane cracking up already.”
