Cristiano Ronaldo scores late winner for Juventus

Cristiano Ronaldo is very much back in the goals

After waiting a while for his first Juventus goal, Ronaldo scored twice in their home win over Sassuolo last week.

After a harsh red card on his Juve Champions League debut in midweek, he returned to Serie A action by grabbing a crucial late strike against Frosinone on Sunday evening.

Despite the Bianconeri having the lion’s share of possession and chances created, the game was goalless as it entered its final ten minutes.

The ball fell kindly to the 33-year-old after a shot from Miralem Pjanic had been blocked by the Frosinone defence. Having found a couple of yards of space, he swept home with his left foot, the goalkeeper unable to keep it out despite getting a hand to it.

After Ronaldo’s opener, a second Juventus goal deep into stoppage courtesy of Ferderico Bernardeschi made absolutely certain that all three points were going back to Turin.

Juve’s win maintains their 100% record, helping them keep a three-point lead over second placed Napoli. The two sides meet in Turin next weekend, after Juve host Bologna on Wednesday night.

After this, Juve will return to Champions League action against Young Boys of Bern, a game that Ronaldo will be suspended for following his sending off against Valencia.
