Cristiano Ronaldo gets off the mark at Juventus with two goal brace

Simon Lloyd

Finally, it’s happened

Cristiano Ronaldo has his first goal in a Juventus shirt since completing his move to Turin from Real Madrid in the summer.

Having failed to score in his first three outings for his new club, his first goal as a Juve player came early in the second half of their Serie A meeting with Sassuolo.

In truth, it couldn’t have been much more straightforward either.

Sassuolo failed to deal with a corner, which Gian Marco Ferrari nodded against his own post. The ball rebounded perfectly to Ronaldo, who was able to prod home to give the Italian champions the lead.

He didn’t have to wait long for his next goal for the club either. Minutes later, he finished off a Juve break, slotting calmly beyond the goalkeeper to double their lead.

Ronaldo later missed a golden opportunity to complete a hat-trick. Having lost his marker, he looked certain to turn home a cross when it fell to him at the back post. Unfortunately for him, he mis-hit his effort wide of the post.

A stoppage time goal for Sassuolo completed the scoring, with Juventus maintaining their 100% start to the new campaign. Even at this early stage in the season they are the only Serie A club to have won all of their games.

They travel to Spain in midweek where they will begin their Champions League campaign with a group game against Valencia.
