Touch of class towards supporters from Roberto Firmino as he changes his Liverpool number

Number 11 no more

Roberto Firmino will be hoping to be much more of a Robbie Fowler, Ian Rush or Fernando Torres and less of a Christian Benteke, Iago Aspas or Andy Carroll.

Liverpool’s No. 9 shirt has been worn with varying degrees of success over the years and it will be sported by none other than Firmino for the 2017/18 season.

According to the Reds, the Brazilian requested a squad number switch from the No. 11 he’s had since signing from Hoffenheim two years ago.

Firmino will wear the No. 9 next season and, as a gesture of goodwill to supporters who had already purchased the new Liverpool jersey and got Firmino’s name on the back with No. 11, he will personally sign the shirts sent into the club by fans and return them.

The decision coincides with the signing of Egyptian winger, Mohamed Salah, who joins the Reds from Roma for a fee believed to be in the region of £37 million.

The first images of Salah in a Liverpool jersey emerged on Thursday evening and they confirmed that he will take the No. 11 shirt that has been vacated by Firmino.
