Are you watching, Harry Redknapp?
Michael Carrick’s testimonial went down on Sunday with a Manchester United 08 XI taking on a Michael Carrick All-Star side in Michael Carrick Park… eh, we mean, Old Trafford.
There was some Irish interest in the rest of the world team with Shay Given starting between the posts, Damien Duff playing on the wing and the currently clubless Robbie Keane leading the line up front alongside Michael Owen.
Keane, who’s been linked with several clubs in England, represented himself well in the game. Late on, he grabbed a vintage goal that will have you rubbing your rose-tinted glasses with glee.
The striker made a superb run to get past the last line of defence to meet a lobbed through ball. The ball bounced inside the six-yard box where Keane dinked it over Edwin van der Sar between the United posts with his first touch of the ball.

It was a delightful finish that sparked a decent amount of reaction on Twitter for a legends game.
A few people complained about the distinct lack of cartwheel celebration, but mostly it was Birmingham City supporters who were calling for their manager to snap up the Republic of Ireland legend. Keane has been linked with a move to Birmingham in Sunday’s transfer gossip columns, as has fellow Premier League veteran Peter Crouch.
