Rio Ferdinand rightly brags about his Toni Kroos prediction made in 2014

Good shout, Rio

Robert Redmond

He called it.

Rio Ferdinand has been bragging about a prediction he made back in 2014, and you can’t really blame him.

Back then, Ferdinand had just left Manchester United after 12 years, and his old club were beaten to the signing of Toni Kroos by Real Madrid.

A day before the €30m transfer from Bayern Munich was confirmed, Rio tweeted his thoughts on the deal, saying that it would prove very important for the Madrid team.

The former United and England defender said the Spanish side would reach at least the semi-final of the Champions League, and win La Liga again, with Kroos in the team.

Fast forward three years, and Madrid have won two Champions League titles, and last month clinched their first league title since 2012.

Kroos, and Luka Modric, another player Ferdinand singled out for praise back in 2014, have been at the centre of the team’s success.

They were, once again, brilliant in the Champions League final on Saturday night, helping Madrid to a 4-1 win over Juventus.

Rio couldn’t resist bragging about his prediction from three years, and yet again praised the Madrid midfielders.

According to David Moyes, he had convinced Kroos to join United in 2014, before he was sacked as the club’s manager and replaced by Louis van Gaal.

Things could have been very different for the German midfielder.
