Richard Keys tells shameless Harry Redknapp to shut it over Aston Villa criticism

Kevin McGillicuddy

It’s a case of Mr. Pot meet Mr. Kettle for Richard Keys.

The former Sky Sports presenter’s blog is well worth five minutes of your time this week, and not just for his usual ramblings, which are entertaining, of course.

But this week he has really stuck the boot into one of football’s most beloved characters, Harry Redknapp, or ‘Arry to his mates.

The former Tottenham boss had a recent spell as manager of Jordan, while his last club gig was with QPR, who he failed to keep in the Premier League.

Harry Redknapp cringey

The car window-loving old fashioned geezer parody has worn thin on Keys, who thinks Redknapp’s thoughts on Aston Villa this season are total and utter horseshit.

This week Redknapp described Villa’s season as “pathetic”, and Keys takes the 69-year-old Londoner to task for his comments.

“What about ‘Arry again today? ‘One word to sum up Villa’s season – Pathetic’ screams the headline on his column in The Telegraph. I’m sorry – who was it won four of 22 games at QPR, whilst taking them down? Who left the club with the lowest win percentage of any QPR manager in the P Lge – just 19%? Where is Yun Suk-Young, one of the signings taken in by ‘Arry during his time at Loftus Road? Tal Ben Haim? Chris Samba? How many clean sheets did they keep with Samba in the team? Just the one. How much was spent in the 2013 January window – £21.5m – not including ‘undisclosed’ fees. QPR went down with 25 points. I call that ‘pathetic’. Honestly. The man has no shame – and a very short memory.”

Keys doesn’t even manage to include the awkward smiley emoji face after his comments, but it feels like a two-footed lunge at Harry’s delicate reputation from the TV host.

And the BeIN Sports host also remarks on Redknapp’s clanger last week when he called for Leicester’s Wes Morgan, a full Jamaica international, to be called up by England for the Euros.

“After his howler, calling for Wes Morgan to get an England cap last week, I somehow expected to hear him asking for Kasper Schmeichel to be called up by Roy Hodgson this week! I’ll make a little prediction here – if Derby gets up this season – ‘Arry will be in charge at the start of next season. You watch. ”
