They may not be favourites to win it but the Republic of Ireland will certainly be one of the most popular teams at Euro 2016.

The FAI today released the official figures from the ticket application process that has come to a close.

The association reports that there were over 275,000 applications for Euro 2016 games in which Ireland will be involved.

It’s impossible to even come close to meeting that demand though as Ireland have a combined total allocation of 26,000 for the three group matches – 13,000 for Sweden game, 6,000 for Belgium game and 7,000 for Italy game.

In a statement from the association, the FAI pledged to “endeavour to reward the most loyal supporters” with Supporters Clubs, Season Tickets holders, Fan’s Direct members and fans with the most accrued points being preferred during the application process.
