Republic of Ireland make five changes for team to play Denmark

Robert Redmond

The team has been named.

The Republic of Ireland have named their starting line-up for their Uefa Nations League tie against Denmark.

Regardless of the result on Monday night in Aarhus, Martin O’Neill’s side will be relegated from the second tier of the new competition and Denmark will be promoted to the top tier.

That means Ireland will be third seeds when the draw for Euro 2020 qualification is made at the start of December. Other than trying to salvage some pride and end a terrible year on a high note, there is little at stake for O’Neill’s side in the Denmark match.

The former Sunderland manager has made five changes to the team that played out a goalless draw with Northern Ireland.

John Egan, Darragh Lenihan, James McClean (who is suspended for the match), Glenn Whelan and Callum Robinson drop out of the team.

In comes, Richard Keogh, Kevin Long, Enda Stevens, Cyrus Christie and Aiden O’Brien.
