The Sunday Times Rich list is about to be published tomorrow and makes for interesting reading for us poor hacks who envy the talent of sportsmen, and their fat wallets too.
The top ten sees four golfers, five footballers and one jockey top the money list with a combined value of €307million.
Number one is no surprise with Rory McIlroy valued at a cool €52 million after last year’s two major wins. This year’s list puts him slightly ahead of Padraig Harrington who comes in second at €51 million.
Everyone’s favourite Corkman Roy Keane is third with a fortune of €40 million.
No doubt Keane’s earnings have been boosted by his recent book, while he is unlikely to be on minimum wage at the FAI.
Graeme McDowell is the third golfer on the list at €34million, while Robbie Keane makes up the top five with wealth estimated at €27million.
The rest of the top ten sees Damien Duff valued at €26m,Darren Clarke just behind on €25m,the now retired Tony McCoy at €18m, with Martin O’Neill valued as the same as the former jockey.
The last place on the list is filled by Sunderland’s John O’Shea who’s estimated to be worth €16million.
