No good deed goes unpunished.
And it seems that Bray Wanderers really should have checked with the FAI before laying on their own special tribute to this weekend’s 1916 celebrations.
It was reported on Friday afternoon that the club and its groundsman had gone to extraordinary lengths to remember the Easter Rising with a special 1916 symbol cut into the centre circle.

It got a fairly warm welcome and was a unique tribute on a weekend where every county is trying to do something to mark the centenary.
But it seems the boys and girls of the FAI were not best pleased, and reports today are suggesting that the pitch markings will have to be removed.
The Irish Sun is reporting that the markings will have to be erased under a Fifa directive that states no ‘non-football markings are allowed within the boundaries of the pitch.
It seems a shame, but rules are rules.
