The official reason for Arturo Vidal being released from international duty may not be the real one, if Chilean reports are to be believed.
The Bayern Munich midfielder was flown back to Germany from the Chile camp ahead of their friendly with Paraguay.
It was reported that the player was granted leave so he could return for his son’s operation, who suffers from diabetes.
However, according to Chilean publication El Mercurio, Vidal’s friends explained that he was released from international duty for another reason.
The newspaper claims that Vidal showed up to training unfit, after having been out at a casino the night before.
He was subsequently pictured out at a bar with friends after being asked to leave the camp.
Considering Vidal’s track-record with alcohol, he was caught drink-driving at the Copa America after crashing his Ferrari, this could cause untold damage to his relationship with the international set up in Chile.
