It’s hard to know what’s going through Aiden McGeady’s head.
And that’s not just as he twists and turns indefinitely before choosing the wrong option in the box.
No, it seems the Republic of Ireland attacker is just as confused when he’s choosing clubs.
It was reported on Saturday that the Everton winger is set to move to Spain for the remainder of the season, linking up with his former Spartak Moscow manager Unai Emery at Sevilla.
Yes, Sevilla. The back to back Europa League winners who currently sit in fifth place in La Liga.
But McGeady has turned down the chance to rub shoulders with Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez and Neymar.
Instead he has joined Sheffield Wednesday (7th in the Championship) and will go into the squad for Tuesday night’s game against Burnley.
Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal revealed he previously tried to sign McGeady back when the winger was at Celtic and he was manager of Sporting Lisbon.
“He is a player that adds extra quality and a player I know very, very well because when he played at Celtic, I was coach of Sporting and I tried to bring him to the club but it was not possible at that moment.
Carvalhal also explained that being part of the Ireland squad at Euro 2016 was a motivating factor for McGeady.
“He has a big personal challenge because he wants to be at the Euros with his national team and to us, this kind of player is important because they are hungry to play,” he said.
Maybe McGeady thought a move to Spain might put him that bit too far away from Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane’s gaze.
Or else he thought a few months of looking good in the Championship may be just the ticket for a place in Ireland’s starting XI.
