Super Jonny Walters will be in France this summer!
There was no way a pesky knee was going to stop the man on whom a huge amount of our Euro 2016 hopes rests playing for Ireland when our adventure kicks off on June 13th.
It was revealed this morning that the Stoke forward had suffered a serious knee injury in the recent weeks and would undergo surgery, the recovery from which would rule him out for the remainder of this season.
Walters was set to miss the final few games of Stoke’s Premier League campaign, while also being rated as highly doubtful for Ireland’s remaining two warm-up games against Netherlands and Belarus, having already missed the draw to Slovakia and win over Switzerland.
However, there has been some good news from the man himself this afternoon, as sources close to the player have told the Stoke Sentinel that he will be fit for Ireland’s European Championship adventure no matter what.
The newspaper is reporting that Walters has undergone successful knee surgery on the troublesome ligaments in the past few days, and it is hoped he will be back to full fitness within a matter of weeks.
The newspaper reports that sources close to the player are hopeful he will be back to full fitness sooner than the medically advised 4-6 week rest period, having previously recovered in three weeks from similar surgery.
Now people know why we call him ‘super Jonny Walters’. It’s his powers of recovery, as well as deadly finishing.
Apologies for no post op selfie. I had surgery yesterday and all went well, delighted to have moved up two cup sizes 👍🏼
