Tyldesley was part of the ITV commentary team
Popular ITV commentator Clive Tyldesley left the World Cup early after being overlooked for a slot in one of the quarter final ties.
The Daily Mail have reported that Tyldesley – who left Qatar last Wednesday – was asked to provide commentary for a highlights package instead of the full match.
Upon hearing the offer, Tyldesley supposedly asked producers if he could fly home early and posted a picture of himself in Doha airport with a glass of wine, passport and his boarding pass.
He tweeted: “My eighth World Cup in the job of my dreams and the first time I’m going to be home before England! Thank you for your company.”

Tyldesley received an unwavering amount of support on social media, who stepped back from his role as lead commentator for ITV in 2020 after 22 years of working for the broadcaster.
Duo Jon Champion and Ally McCoist took up commentary duties for Portugal’s shock World Cup exit to Morocco.
McCoist will also join Sam Matterface – the man who replaced Tyldesley as ITV’s main commentator – and Lee Dixon for live coverage of Argentina’s game against Croatia on Tuesday night.
After being replaced by Matterface in 2020, the 68-year-old released a tweet explaining the reasons behind his departure.
“To be clear, this is ITV’s decision, not mine,” he said.
“I’m upset, annoyed and baffled.’ A clearly devastated Tyldesley added: ‘I love this job and it’s gone. Why? I don’t know.”
