It’s a real shame Euro 2016 won’t get to experience the classic look of the Netherlands’ new kit

Tom Victor

It’s not just the 24 European teams playing in France this summer who have rolled out a new kit ahead of the tournament.

The Netherlands are usually a fixture at any major tournament, but a combination of a resurgent Iceland, rumours of in-fighting and a bizarre Robin van Persie own goal mean they won’t be taking part in the Euro 2016 finals.

Those rejoicing at not having to face the likes of Arjen Robben this summer probably didn’t contemplate that we’ll also be missing out on one of the more consistently great kits of the international stage.

The Oranje tend to keep things simple, with the striking central colour often complemented by understated white or black in the past, but this time around they’ve opted for a fetching royal blue KNVB logo.

It’s the European Championships’ loss, with many quick to praise the design on social media.

The kit will get its debut in the March 25 friendly with France.
