Is anyone surprised?

Real Madrid’s vice-president let slip football’s worst secret, that Rafa Benitez will be the new Real Madrid manager, at a fans’ group meeting.

“(Carlo) Ancelotti is an absolute phenomenon and we give him all our appreciation,” Eduardo Fernandez de Blas reportedly said at the meeting. “Until three days ago he was the best trainer in the world as two years ago it was Jose Mourinho and from this week onwards it will be Rafa Benitez.”

Cue gasps, shock, wailing, and pandemonium at the meeting. Who saw this appointment coming?

f5d65654d35341967df73dcf50e9ec5b.468x360x55Well, everyone. Benitez announced earlier this week he was stepping down as Napoli coach at the end of the current Serie A season, and Madrid have a vacancy since sacking Carlo Ancelotti. All that remains is for the club and Benitez to officially confirm the appointment.

Tell us something we don’t know Eduardo.
