Can’t we all just get along.
Real Madrid are among the richest clubs in the world. They have fans in every part of the globe and you would think that a side playing in the fifth division of the Swiss league would be fairly low on their priority list.
That would be true if the club in Switzerland didn’t bear a name strikingly similar to the La Liga side. According to reports in Blick, the European champions have forced the lowly Swiss side ‘Real Madrid Zurich’ to shut down their website, realamdrid.ch, and their Facebook page after the discovery. Quite how stupid they think people on the internet are to mix up a side from the football powerhouse that is Schlieren for the Spanish outfit is beyond us.
The report states that Madrid got in touch with the Swiss FA to expel the Zurich outfit if they didn’t not change their name. According to the Swiss club’s president,Yurdakul Ali, they are hopeful they can come to some agreement, but maybe at a price too,
‘We would prefer to resolve the problem amicably. We are a non-profit organisation and are committed to ensure that young people find meaningful leisure activities. For our players, it’s an honour to play under the name Real Madrid Zurich. We want to sell the domain at an auction.’
Insert joke here about putting the money from the auction in a Swiss Bank account. We do love the graphic accompanying the original piece that imagines Ronaldo as a modern day Godzilla squishing the club underfoot.
