Most players would offer a similar reason for not wanting a loan move.
They want to stay and fight for their place in the first team.
However, such a reason doesn’t carry much weight when Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and James Rodriguez are the players you have to displace to earn that starting spot.
Marco Asensio has just joined Real Madrid from Mallorca, making his first appearance against Spurs in a friendly yesterday, and the 19 year old has already dismissed suggestions he’ll be going on loan to get playing time.
His reason being not that he’s confident of starting ahead of one of the world’s most expensive players, but that he’s enjoying the money at Madrid too much.

When it was put to Asensio that he could go out on loan, he told Spanish media outlet AS: “It’s a source of pride that so many teams are interested, but for now I’m focused on Madrid.”
When the signed me I still had a commitment to Mallorca, but having trained with Madrid I’m very happy and I’m hoping to learn a lot more.
There are lot of players who play as a 10, it’s tough to get in there, but I can play on any side up front. I think I’m a versatile player. I’m getting to know my teammates. I’m a bold player, I guess my teammates will have seen that.
I’m enjoying the money.
We’ve played enough Football Manager to know that a player’s wage will be paid while on-loan, with the parent club picking up a percentage of the player’s salary.
Maybe Asensio is thinking of the significant amount to be made in win bonuses by sitting on the Madrid bench for the forthcoming season?
