Ravel Morrison was once considered a better Manchester United prospect than Paul Pogba.
But now, as United prepare to break the world transfer record to bring the Frenchman back to Old Trafford, Morrison is…not the subject of a record-breaking bid.
The midfielder does share one trait with Pogba, namely that he is plying his trade in Serie A. He joined Lazio following his release from West Ham in 2015, but has played just seven times for the Italian club.
There is a sense that this year could be make or-break for a player once regarded as one of the most talented players to pass through Manchester United’s youth system.
He has been in action in pre-season, though, and gave us a reminder of his abilities with a neat volley in Lazio’s 1-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion.

It is not his first goal of the current pre-season campaign – he found the net in a 10-0 win over Auronzo before adding a cheeky Panenka penalty in a shoot-out victory against SPAL.
The former England U21 international is still just 23, and has time to rebuild his career in Rome under Claudio Lotito.
